Performed under local anesthesia, this simple treatment involves no downtime. In addition to providing immediate relief from uncomfortable symptoms such as pain and cramps, a phlebectomy will also improve the appearance of your skin.

Lasting relief from varicose vein pain

Varicose veins are swollen, twisted and bulging veins that are usually found on the feet and legs. They can be blue, red or the same color as the surrounding skin. Whether you want to remove your varicose veins for cosmetic reasons or to alleviate symptoms, a phlebectomy may be a suitable treatment for you. At NYBG in Roslyn Heights and Cortlandt Manor, we offer several different treatments for varicose veins, and ambulatory phlebectomy is a popular choice.

Do you suffer from throbbing pains, tiredness, or cramps in your legs?

Vein disease is a common issue, especially for women. Between 50 and 90 percent of women will experience vein disease at some point in their life. Varicose veins come about when your vein walls or valves become weak or damaged. This prevents your blood from flowing correctly.

Your blood begins to collect in your veins, making them swollen and enlarged. Varicose veins often worsen with time, and if not treated may lead to complications such as blood clots and ulcers. We recommend contacting us as soon as possible to ensure the best possible outcome.

Safe and effective removal of varicose veins

In the past, methods used to remove varicose veins were often complicated, time-consuming, and uncomfortable. This is no longer the case. Modern procedures are straightforward, minimally invasive and require no downtime. Ambulatory phlebectomy is an excellent example. Benefits of ambulatory phlebectomy include:

  • Varicose veins are fully removed, improving the appearance of your skin
  • Immediate relief from pain and discomfort caused by varicose veins
  • The procedure is short, and you can go home again right after
  • Incisions are tiny, which means there is little to no scarring
  • Long-term results

Your vein consultation

At NYBG Veins in Roslyn Heights and Cortlandt Manor, we are experts in treating all types of vein conditions. If you are facing a health issue with your veins, we can help. You may have been told by your doctor that nothing can be done. No matter what your symptom or condition, Dr. Ahn can help pinpoint the cause and provide relief.

During your consultation, Dr. Ahn will examine your veins and ask you questions about your symptoms and medical history. He will then devise a treatment plan that is customized to suit your unique circumstances and goals. All procedures at NYBG Veins are performed in-office and are minimally invasive.

Will I need to take time off from work?

Most patients will be able to return to work immediately post-procedure. Side effects tend to be mild. You may experience some discomfort, swelling or bruising around the incision site. This is part of the healing process and is normal. Over-the-counter painkillers such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen will help relieve any pain. Dr. Ahn will provide you with detailed instructions to make your recovery as smooth and rapid as possible. These will include wearing compression stockings for a period. The small incisions will heal on their own and will fade with time. In six months to a year, they should barely be visible.

How long does an ambulatory phlebectomy take?

When you arrive for your ambulatory phlebectomy, you will change into a gown and Dr. Ahn will mark the veins to be treated. Next, he will administer your local anesthesia. Once it has taken effect, he will make tiny incisions in your skin, removing your varicose veins segment by segment. The entire process typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour. You may feel minimal discomfort during your procedure. Once your ambulatory phlebectomy has been completed, you can go home.

Will I need more than one treatment?

This will depend upon your circumstances. Usually only one treatment is needed to remove large varicose veins. As an ambulatory phlebectomy removes the affected vein, your symptoms should disappear immediately and should not return. However, the procedure will not prevent further varicose veins from developing in the future. Should this occur, Dr. Ahn will recommend the best treatment option. Several treatments exist, and the earlier the condition is treated, the better the outcome will be.
